Happy Munchy Monday, lovelies! This week's spotlight is on Bäco Mercat, the home of the bäco flatbread sandwich, in downtown Los Angeles.
The Salty Jowl Coca (Flatbread): $16 // Toron Bäco: $14
Bäco Mercat in downtown Los Angeles is home of the flatbread sandwich called bäco. What is a bäco, you ask? It's basically a sandwich, but the bäco bread is like a thin, crisp bun. Our waiter recommended the Toron and it was delicious. A bit pricey for the size, but it's really such a unique taste that I've never had before. As an appetizer, we had Caramelized Cauliflower (first photo) for the price of $9. It was mixed
with pine nuts, mint, garlic, and lebni, which gives it a lot of flavor
that I've never tasted together before. I didn't like it at first taste, but it's
one of those things that get better once you have more. We also ordered The Salty Jowl Coca, which is the Spanish version of a pizza. I prefer thicker crusts over flatbreads, but The Salty Jowl wasn't bad and the crust had a great crisp. The service is average - not too excellent but not rude. Dogs are allowed but on a very small patio, so I wouldn't recommend any large dogs. As for location and parking, downtown obviously requires some patience and a lot of loose change. I found $5 flat rate parking in a structure right across from the restaurant, and that's pretty cheap if you ask me. The restaurant has a great ambiance and it was a great place to grab a quick lunch. I'll probably go back if I'm in the area, but in my opinion, it's a bit of a far drive for what the restaurant has to offer.
